RAM 2500 Vs. Ford 250 Super Duty - Ultimate Comparison

Written by the Brant Jones Team

Trucks are about as authentically American as you can get in vehicle types. In the United States, Ford and Chevy have long controlled the truck industry, but Ram has just eclipsed them as a challenger.

The new Ram 2500 for 2022 is one of the most significant new trucks on the market, but the Ford F-250 for 2022 might be a tough competitor. We've put up a side-by-side comparison of the two with the aid of Motor Trend to make your selection simpler.

Exploring RAM 2500 2022

The Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Power Wagon, Limited Longhorn, and Limited trim levels are available on the 2022 Ram 2500. A new Ram Heavy Duty Big Horn/Lone Star Silver Edition package with chrome detailing and other distinctive design characteristics is also available.

This model is greatly admired by Motor Trend, who called it "the finest heavy-duty truck in its sector" and said it won Truck of the Year in 2020. The vehicle base model starts at $36,350 and comes with two engine choices, one of which is a diesel engine that costs roughly $9,500 more.

The diesel engine is a 6.7-liter turbocharged inline-six with 370 horsepower, 850 lb-ft of torque, and a standard eight-speed or a complimentary six-speed gearbox. The diesel model's torque makes it a tremendous hauling vehicle. Each trim level has its unique features. The Power Wagon trim stands out from the others since it's Ram's off-road-ready vehicle. All trims save the Power Wagon, have basic RWD and optional 4WD; the Power Wagon alone has 4WD.

The inside received several upgrades, including a massive new 12-inch “infotainment” screen for vehicles above the Big Horn level. A driver-assist package with blind-spot monitoring, automated emergency braking, and other features are available as options. Overall, the Ram 2500 is a comfortable, sleek, and powerful vehicle with enough trim choices to make it precisely what you need.

Exploring Ford F-250 2022

The main strength of the 2022 Ford F-250, according to Motor Trend, is its hauling capability. The truck is offered with three distinct engine choices, all of which are V-8s. The two gas engines are powerful enough, but the Power Stroke 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8 has a massive 1,050 lb-ft of torque and 475 horsepower.

The Ford F-250 has a base price of $35,200. It comes equipped with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque and a six-speed gearbox. The next step up is a 7.3-liter gas V-8 with 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque with a 10-speed automated gearbox.

The 12-inch “infotainment” screen is Ford's second major update for the 2022 F-250. Starting with the Lariat, it's standard on all trims above the XLT. However, one disadvantage of the higher trims is how rapidly their costs rise. The most expensive Limited trim level costs approximately $90,000, more than $50,000 above the base XL trim model.

The six trim levels offered are XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. Ford has designed a Tremor off-road engine package, despite not having a dedicated off-road trim like Ram. RWD is standard on all grades, much as 2500, while 4WD is available.

The standard safety features differ depending on the trim level. The XL does not have any driver-assist technology as standard. However, the XLT and above include automated emergency braking. Lane-departure warning is also included on the Lariat and higher models. Adaptive cruise control, 360-degree cameras, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring are available driver-support options.

Although the ride is a little rougher and the trims are more expensive than the Ram 2500, the strong diesel engine may be enough to lure buyers to Ford.

What is the best option out of these two?

You may want to opt for the Ram 2500 if you're looking for a good deal. It boasts many of the same features as the F-250, and the higher trim levels aren't quite as expensive. The one area where Ford seems to have an advantage over Ram is torque and towing capacity, so if those are priorities for you, Ford may be the victor.

While the starting pricing of the RAM 2500 and the Ford F-250 are close, the RAM 2500 offers far greater value. Because the RAM is the bigger vehicle, you can add more to the bed and the cabin for comfort. The RAM 2500 also gives you additional possibilities for customizing your vehicle to fit your lifestyle and driving requirements.

Final words

There are several possibilities available in the diesel truck market. Each truck manufacturer claims that its model is the most competent and powerful, making it more challenging to make a purchase choice.  We want to help you make the best selection possible. It's about making sure you have the equipment to do the work or transport all of your belongings.

These heavy-duty vehicles are tough on the outside, but they also provide on the inside. Because the RAM 2500 is often compared to the Ford F-250, we thought it would be useful to show you how they differ. The F-250 is a terrific vehicle with excellent amenities, but it doesn't compare to the RAM 2500 in power, style, performance, and adaptability. Keep these facts in mind and make sure that you are spending your money to get hold of the best pickup truck available for purchase among these two options.
